Welcome Back

Dear Parent/Guardian/Student:

We are excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year on Wednesday, August 9th.  Our teachers are excited to welcome students back into their classrooms, and we look forward to a year filled with wonderful educational opportunities.

As we continue our transition from Harmony to Powerschool, we will be sending this email out via both platforms.  Beginning on August 7th, it is our intention to only communicate via the Powerschool platform.  Parents/Guardians are encouraged to complete Powerschool registration so that we may continue to communicate with you regarding all matters related to North Putnam High School and your student.

The following document is fairly lengthy as we have attempted to create a resource for you as we prepare to begin the 2023-2024 school year.

Current Office Hours/Before School Schedule: Our office is open from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily, except for August 2nd when we will be open from Noon to 7PM for registration.  Our teachers come back to school on August 7th.

All North Putnam school buildings will be closed to the public on August 7th and 8th due to important professional development activities that will include all building level staff.  The North Putnam Corporation office will be open on August 7th and 8th in order to answer phone calls.

Powerschool Accounts and School Registration We need all parents to create a Parent PowerSchool account and complete the online Powerschool Registration.  We will have onsite registration on Wednesday, August 2nd from noon to 7PM and have staff available to assist parents in this process.  For a step by step guide, follow this link.  If you have questions, feel free to contact our office.  Student accounts will be created after the school year begins.

Supply Lists: We do not provide supply lists at the HS due to the unique nature of high school student schedules.  We hope students come prepared the first day with basic school supplies: paper, writing utensils, organizational devices.  Teacher will then communicate to students what additional items they may need throughout the semester.

Events Calendar: Our website has a robust Events Calendar located at the bottom of the homepage. Monthly, we will send a calendar that includes all the expected activities taking place on campus.

Schedules and Schedule Change Requests: Schedules for most students are available through the Parent Access Portal in PowerSchool.  Parents are encouraged to share the schedule with students.

Our counselors have been working diligently to make schedules, learn PowerSchool, and attempt to balance our schedule as much as possible.  They returned to the office on Monday, and have been working to complete this task, while also attending to a variety of other activities.  Students/Parents are encouraged to reach out to counselors prior to the start of school to request a schedule change.  Counselors will begin working through schedule change requests on Tuesday, August 1st, and will prioritize requests made through the Guidance Support Ticket form.  Schedule changes will be allowed through the first week of school as well.

Lockers/Backpacks: All students will be issued a locker at NPHS.  All backpacks/coats should be placed in the student locker.  Backpacks/coats should not be taken to classrooms.  Students are encouraged to keep their combination private, and to not share lockers.  Items found within a locker are presumed to be the property of the person who was issued the locker.

Textbook Rental: State legislature in passing their new budget have attempted to fully fund the cost of textbooks.  Schools are no longer allowed to issue textbook bills to students.  This includes the cost of the chromebook.  Parents/Students will still be responsible for the cost of any damaged or lost devices or materials.

Lunch Accounts and Free/Reduced Lunch Application: Information will be forthcoming from the Central Office/Food Service Department regarding a new online platform for lunch accounts, and paying for lunch fees online.  Active balances/deficiencies at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year have been maintained.  The new program will also be the manner in which parents will apply for Free/Reduced Lunch.

2023-2024 Lunch Prices: Breakfast: Full Pay: $2.00 Reduced: $ 0.30  Lunch: Full Pay:  $3.25 Reduced:   $ 0.40

Important Dress Code Changes: Changes have been made to the handbook regarding student dress code.  Shirts must cover stomachs and backs.  No crop-tops, midriffs, or tank tops.  Bra straps should not be visible.  Any student who is in violation of the dress code the first time will be asked to go to the nurse's office to get a shirt to change into.

Hoods will no longer be allowed.  Students MAY wear hoodie sweatshirts, but they are not allowed to wear the hood on their head.

If we can be of any help to you or your student as we prepare for school, please do not hesitate to reach out.
