Virtual Instruction

Parents/Students:

As announced today by Superintendent Allee, North Putnam High School will move to At-Home Learning beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31.  It is our plan to return to in-class instruction on Tuesday, September 7.  Unfortunately, due to contact tracing and additional positive cases in our school more than 20% of our student body have been moved to a virtual learning environment due to their exposure and/or positive test.  Due to an excess of positive cases received today, additional positive cases throughout the week may actually push back our return date.  This will be monitored and further communication will occur later this week regarding the return date, that we hope will be Tuesday, September 7th.

Below is our class schedule and expectations for the next five school days.

Tuesday, August 31-Friday, September 3

Synchronous Learning Schedule:

Synchronous learning means that these classes will be conducted live. These may be very short in duration. However, we have blocked off the entire hour for additional help and questions. Teachers may have videos, Google meets (live) or quick direct instructions as part of the lesson. They also will have the remainder of the hour to meet w/ students during that class period.

Please be aware that we are using a block schedule so the lessons will likely cover 2 days worth of material.

Area 30 students are expected to complete Area 30 assignments during the time listed.  No NPHS students are to report to Area 30.

NPHS Expectations for Synchronous Learning

  • All students are expected to participate in daily educational activities.

  • If a student is ill or there is an event that would keep a student from participating in the day's activities, parents must notify the school as soon as possible. (kclodfelter@nputnam.k12.in.us)

  • Lessons will be posted on Google Classroom as early as possible, at the latest by 9:00 am. This will include an overview of the learning provided by the teacher, with approximate time for tasks, and due dates.

  • Google Meet is the platform used to video conference with students.

  • Students will have daily opportunities to participate in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (pre-recorded) instruction.

  • Teachers will be available by email or phone daily.

  • Teachers' available hours will be spent planning, facilitating activities, online teaching & conferencing, contacting parents, responding to questions, and collaborating with other teachers.

  • Teachers will post "office hours" on Google Classroom

  • Due dates should be honored or work will be counted as "late."

Students

  • Regularly check email and Google Classroom (for new or added material)

  • Try, make mistakes, and try again. If you are stuck, contact the teacher

  • Attend virtual classes regularly, and manage your time. Do not procrastinate.

Parents

  • We encourage you to ask to see your student’s work.  Please have your student show you on Google Classroom the work they are completing.  If your student says they have completed everything, ask them to see it.  Students can “game” the system, they know it, and our teachers struggle with it daily.  By looking at their work, this is the only way to ensure that they are completing assignments.

  • Communicate with teachers. Ask them questions. They are here to help.

  • Communicate with teachers/school if reliable internet access is not available  to develop a different learning plan for your student.

If your student does not have consistent internet access, you must contact your teacher directly for alternative materials that can be picked up from the high school office during regular business hours (8:00am-4:00pm), or make arrangements for pick up of these materials with administration.
